The Great Lakes Region                          The Great Lakes region is located in the northwest part of the state and is made up of Erie, Crawford, Mercer, and Venango counties.  Within this region are five great state parks, three of which are on the 20 must-see state parks list for Pennsylvania.  Click on the WC for a local weather check.

Erie Bluffs State Park is the newest Pennsylvania state park and is 540 acres with 90-foot bluffs on the shore of Lake Erie.  Fishing in Elk Creek is just a cast away!

Oil Creek State Park is a must-see and home of the world's first oil well.  You'll enjoy the early petroleum industry history throughout the park and you can hike the 9.7-mile trail through the "valley that changed the world."

Pymatuning State Park is another must-see and boasts a 17,088-acre lake with great boating and fishing.  The natural areas, the 161-acre Clark Island, and the 725-acre Blackjack Swamp are all worth the trip.  There are three Park campgrounds available, each with their own character.  Click on the campground  below to view the map.

Maurice K. Goddard State Park has one of the best observation blinds where you can look for migrating waterfowl in the spring and fall or eagles and osprey.  The 1,860-acre Lake Wilhelm is a year-round fishing heaven.

Presque Isle State Park is a must-see and has the state's only surf beach!  The new Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC)is 60,000 square feet of interactive exhibits for educational purposes.
